Power outage after collision, DWI charges filed

On Behalf of | May 20, 2022 | DWI |

It was approximately 7 a.m. on a Friday when a car accident occurred at an intersection in Minnesota. The collision involved two vehicles. Police went looking for one of the drivers, who is said to have left the scene.

The vehicles that collided both wound up hitting an electrical control box nearby, which resulted in a power outage in the area. One of the drivers suffered minor injuries in the collision. The man who reportedly left the accident site was later arrested and is now facing charges for suspected DWI.

Police say that the defendant failed to stop at a red light

Investigators claim that a key factor in the collision was the defendant’s alleged failure to stop at a red light. Police also say there was an open alcohol container in the man’s vehicle. In addition to suspected DWI, the driver in question is facing multiple other charges, as well, including operating a motor vehicle after license revocation.

When a person faces DWI charges in Minnesota, he or she is guaranteed an opportunity to present a defense. At such time, a defendant may wish to bring numerous issues to the court’s attention, which may help mitigate the circumstances. Most people charged with drunk driving ask an experienced criminal defense attorney to speak and act on their behalf in court, which typically increases the chances of obtaining a positive outcome. An attorney also knows how to initiate a challenge if a personal rights violation occurred during the procurement of evidence in a case.
